Musical Theater Prepares for Winter Show

By Ryleigh Brady and Vivienne Rodriguez

Musical Theatre is an awesome elective open to students in fourth through eighth grade. Mrs. Owens, the theater teacher,  is an amazing acting and singing coach. She's had years of experience in theater, dancing, and the arts. She is currently working with her class on the upcoming winter school production, Camel Lot.

Here are some things that we heard from her students.

Gia Mougros, fourth grade, said, “I love the show because it has a lot of action in it, and I like it because I get to read the script before the show.”

She will be playing the part of Lydia. “I like the part because it has four scenes and I like to perform in front of people,” she said.

Raelyn Hedger, who is also in fourth grade, was excited to audition for the part of Ruth. ”My favorite part in the show is Ruth because I only like to have a little bit of lines. I like it because there is a lot of action in the lines.”

During musical theater class, students practice saying lines and they are learning how to act in the play. They also learn about lighting and stage directions. A lot goes into putting on a good musical. Camel Lot will hit the stage in December. We will bring you updates when rehearsals begin!
