Valentine's Day is coming up soon. Every calendar year, it falls on February 14. People everywhere buy candy and celebrate love. For kids, Valentine’s is a holiday when you pass out candy and treats. At school, it is all about having fun. Teachers do special lessons and have parties. Students often bring toys and sugary snacks. GCA scholars are looking forward to the holiday.
Third-grade student Harper Booth is excited to decorate her Valentines box.
“I’m going to put hearts on it,” she said. “I’m going to pass out candy and fidgets.”
Harper’s favorite thing about Valentines is spending time with family and hanging out with her cousins. She said her favorite color to decorate with is hot pink.
Mrs. Coleman, 4th and 5th grade teacher, said her family makes her heart happy on Valentine’s.
“I get flowers and chocolate from my husband and have a fancy dinner,” she said. “Our kids are our valentines.” If she decorates a box, Mrs. Coleman said it will be a space theme. She plans to give out glow-in-the-dark space squishes.
Second-grader Adley Hedger said, “I will put butterflies and fake flowers on my box.”
Adley said she also likes to hangout with the family. Fellow second-grader Paige Whitman said her favorite treat is chocolate. She likes to give gifts and get gifts.
Even in middle school they have fun. Mrs. Mougros is going to have a valentine`s day worksheet and give them a treat. Mrs. Newman is throwing a party and giving kindness cards.
"I have a big heart with all the different chocolates because I like to try chocolates I don't get to have all the time,” Sophia Monsoon, grade 7, said.
This year, the sixth grade class is selling candy grams as part of a GCA Honor Society. Students can buy candy, fidgets, pens, and other prizes to have delivered to the friend or teacher of their choice. Students in Honor Society are earning community service points for this project.
The students at GCA are going to have a great Valentine's Day full of chocolate and fun. Happy Valentine’s!
