Math class with Mrs. Mougros is so much fun!

She teaches math to grades 6 through 8, and is always willing to work a problem until a student really understands. In her classroom, scholars learn how to be better students. She earns students respect by being a good teacher. She is a positive role model, she gives out candy, and she helps with problems.

Mrs. Mougros became a teacher because she has always loved working with kids. As a teenager she did baby sitting. She went on to study education and decided on teaching math because a lot of students think its a tough subject, so she likes to help them make sense of the numbers.

She loves G.C.A because she likes teaching at the school that runs the church. She also loves how her daughters, who are in 4th and 8th grade, are with her at G.C.A. Generations is like a second home to the family.

“My favorite subject is math because it is very structured,” Mougros said.

I asked her what she prefers: algebra or multiplying integers. She likes algebra more but the only part of algebra she does not like is the algebraic tiles. “I find other methods to be more useful,” she said.

Students say Mrs. Mougros makes math interesting.

Alexander Hlvebak’s favorite thing to do in math is equations. When asked Alexander what his least favorite thing to do in math is, the seventh-grader said, “My least favorite thing to do in math is homework."

Maryssa Jenzer, grade 6, said she likes Algebra because it is challenging.

“Mrs. Mougros makes math fun and understandable,” she said. "Mrs. Mougros helps me by working with me and explaining it to me if my answer is right or wrong and supporting me when I am stuck."

Ethan Martinez, grade 6, said, “Math is fun, easy, and hard all at the same time.”

And of course, there's the treats.

“I Like Mrs. Mougros’s class because she is nice and gives out candy,” Jayven Phillips, grade 6, said.

Math plus candy equals Mrs. Mougros's class!
