Reaching their Goals: GCA Soccer Roars

By McKenna Telfor

Three games won, one tied, one lost, and three to go. The GCA soccer team has had a phenomenal season so far. When tryouts started in January, scholars were not sure how the soccer season would play out especially after the girls soccer team did not have enough players. Not having enough girl soccer players led the coaches to decide to join the teams and make the GCA soccer team a boys and girls team. So, this soccer season has led to coming together, figuring out how to work together, having fun, and of course winning.

Eighth grader Landon Johnson said, “I like playing on the team because my friends are on it.” The team has had several outstanding games including their most recent one on March 21st and playing those games with friends makes the win feel ten times better.

“My favorite part is getting to cheer with my friends after someone scores a goal.” Sofia Mougros, 8th grade, stated. Many GCA families and friends come together to cheer on the players during the games.

“The most outstanding game I've done,” Grace Rodriguez 8th grade said, “was the most recent one we played because we have learned so much and we've learned to work together much better.”

Even though there are many highs to soccer, there can be some lows. Occasionally, the other teams can get a bit competitive and not always be the kindest. Fifth grader Micah Hoag explained, “Sometimes, if the other team is trash talking, it can be tough.”

Another hard part about soccer is losing. Sixth grader Dean Gaita stated, “When the team loses, it hurts my insides.”

The players are looking forward to the upcoming games and the future soccer seasons. They have already surpassed many of their goals. It's a win!
