Mr. Williams Brightens Up Our Days

By Ryleigh Brady and Vivienne Rodriguez

Mr. Williams is an awesome Behavior Support Specialist. This is his 3rd year here helping others, encouraging, and most importantly teaching GCA students about God. So, today we will be telling you all about Mr. Williams. First off, his favorite thing about this school is that it's a Christian school, and that all these scholars get to worship, and have free will towards God. The thing he likes most about his job is being a positive role model. The hardest job to do for Mr Williams is to talk about a fix-it-ticket with a kid. (If we were Mr. Williams, we think it would be hard to talk about something difficult like that too!)

When Mr. Williams was about our age, his dream job was to be a professional football player in the NFL. His favorite subject to substitute in is science. He has a huge heart for science and especially exploring God's creation.

Before Mr. Williams came to this school he was at Trinity Oaks Elementary school. He was at Trinity Oaks for more than 5 years! His favorite subject in general is history. (Ours too!)

His favorite thing to do in his free time is to hang out with his puppy and his wife. He likes to spend time with his family. His favorite color is orange. He loves to wear bright colors and Marvel gear. His favorite Marvel character is Captain America (the original). His favorite sport is football. His favorite season is fall. (It's our favorite too!) Mr Willams is vegetarian so he won't eat meat, so his favorite restaurant is Cava.

We hope you enjoyed learning more about the wonderful Mr. Williams!

Musical Theater Prepares for Winter Show

By Ryleigh Brady and Vivienne Rodriguez

Musical Theatre is an awesome elective open to students in fourth through eighth grade. Mrs. Owens, the theater teacher,  is an amazing acting and singing coach. She's had years of experience in theater, dancing, and the arts. She is currently working with her class on the upcoming winter school production, Camel Lot.

Here are some things that we heard from her students.

Gia Mougros, fourth grade, said, “I love the show because it has a lot of action in it, and I like it because I get to read the script before the show.”

She will be playing the part of Lydia. “I like the part because it has four scenes and I like to perform in front of people,” she said.

Raelyn Hedger, who is also in fourth grade, was excited to audition for the part of Ruth. ”My favorite part in the show is Ruth because I only like to have a little bit of lines. I like it because there is a lot of action in the lines.”

During musical theater class, students practice saying lines and they are learning how to act in the play. They also learn about lighting and stage directions. A lot goes into putting on a good musical. Camel Lot will hit the stage in December. We will bring you updates when rehearsals begin!

Reflecting on the Aftermath of Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene was a very powerful category 4 hurricane that impacted Florida, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Winds reached 140 miles per hour. Storm surge caused flooding which destroyed homes and businesses across the coasts.

Here our reporters share their experiences with the storm.

So on Thursday, the 26th, around 5 p.m., the hurricane started to hit us. About 1 hour later we lost power and had no air conditioning, or any lights. Later on that night my father came to the kitchen to tell my family that we were going to leave our house to evacuate to Orlando the next morning. We left the next day about 10 a.m. When we came home, we had flooding in the house! But we are taking care of it. - Ryleigh Brady, 4th grade

The day the hurricane was coming, my family and I went to work and school. When we came back my mom went to the store and bought a lot of food for the hurricane. My sister Grace and I were watching a movie in her room. While my family and I were doing our things the power went out like 5 to 10 times! In the middle of the storm our back living room window was leaking! Then my mom and dad had to go outside and tried to fix it but they couldn't. The next day after the storm, my mom and I woke up early. My neighbors walked over to our house and we drove to help people. - Vivienne Rodriguez, 4th grade.

My cousin's friend had their house flooded, everything washed away, so we opened our guest house to them to stay until their house gets fixed. My friend's house got three and a half feet of water. Their washer locked so they lost their clothes and she said, "My refrigerator looked like a tornado ate all the food." Hopefully everyone impacted can rebuild their homes safely and quickly. - Jackie Meismann, 7th grade.

At first it was just like a normal storm, then the wind speed was up very fast. It was crazy! My two siblings and I were having a hurricane party. We all three slept  in the same bed, but the AC went out, and it was so hot! Luckily my dad came in with a fan and saved the day. We all fell asleep. Then the next morning my basement was flooding and the AC was still off. Fortunately, my dad brought his friends from work and they started to get all of the water out of my basement. - Cohen Housh, 5th grade
