Chef it Up is the Sweetest

By Jackie Meisman

Can you guess which one of GCA’s amazing after school hours is the sweetest? Chef it Up, a program where cooking teachers visit schools, is run by Mrs. Sam every Monday from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Each week club members make two delicious dishes, one they can eat there and the other one they bake at home. Some examples include empanadas and chocolate chip pumpkin bread for the fall season and lots more great foods.

Mrs. Sam said she loves working with students and encouraging them to cook, even at a young age. Her favorite part is spending time with the kids, and seeing how they love learning new cooking styles. “It's exciting meeting all these new people and all their personalities,” she said.

Even if you don't want to be a professional chef when you grow up, it's still a great skill to have and learn in the future. I participated in Chef it Up last year and I learned a lot! I give it five stars!

Let's Go Tampa Bay Rays

By Cohen Housh

Welcome to the Rays game! First you obviously have to find a parking spot and go through security to get in the stadium. I recommend parking off property but close by. When you get inside you need to find your seats. You can do so many things. You can touch stingrays, go to the rays store, and get food. If I was you I would get the soft pretzel and the cotton candy. If you get lucky a baseball player will throw a baseball to you. I never caught one but if you get lucky you can catch one and if a player hits a homerun everybody goes crazy. In the stands there is music and people in the stands start doing the wave. The wave is when the whole stadium starts putting there hands up and go around the stadium. The game is 9 innings long. My favorite thing is the mascot there is a cat mascot named DJ kitty and he is my favorite. There is about 17,781 people that go to the game and you can be one of them!

Finn Scott Worships through Music

By Kaysen Crawford

Finn Scott is the music director for Generations school and church. He is nineteen, plays multiple instruments, and worship has been a part of his life since he was just seven-years-old. He learned the drums as a kid and now he plays drums on stage in front of hundreds of people.

Personally, I think Finn is very cool. Finn's dream career, besides leading worship, is to be a film producer. One of his hobbies is fishing. His favorite song that he has played is “Good Plans”, and his favorite person in the Bible is Samson. Finn’s favorite food is Chinese food. His favorite musical artist is Brandon lake.

At GCA, Finn helps lead Tuesday morning chapel, which is like church service for the school. His favorite part about chapel is the game all the kids play at the beginning. His role in chapel is being music director and a drummer, of course. Finn is currently on a mission trip to Africa, where he is climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro!!

My Trip to Grand Cayman Islands

By Vivienne Rodriguez

Hi my name is Vivienne Rodriguez, and I just took an amazing trip to Grand Cayman Islands. On August 29, my family and I got on the plane, and it had a lot of people. It was a 30 min plane ride. When I got off the plane, I was in the airport for another 30 min. When we arrived at our rental beach house I ate; then my sister and my cousins went to the pool. Then, I went to bed.

The next morning it was sunny and windy, so I went in the pool again. Then we walked down to the beach and went snorkeling with my uncle, my sister ,and my cousin. When we were in the water we saw a lion fish, we saw a lobster and it ran under a big piece of coral.  After that we went downtown and went shopping to look at the local stores. When we were downtown it started raining. While it was raining there were chickens running everywhere and there were so many of them!

The next day we went on a big boat called a catamaran. It had a bed and a bathroom in it. It was so big! When we were on the catamaran we went snorkeling again, and while we were snorkeling I saw a barracuda fish and tons of very pretty coral. Also we went to see stingrays and turtles. I picked up tons of stingrays, and I touched them. They felt like big smooth mushrooms. When I was under water a stingray came right above me and one went up my back. Then we went to a starfish beach. After that we went and saw caves. Did you know if we touched anything in the caves there would be a 10,000 dollar fine and we would be banned from that country. When we were waiting there were chicks and chickens, and in the caves there were bats flying around. The last day we were there it stormed so we ate popcorn and had a movie night. That is it. I am so happy we went there and I loved it because I got to spend  time with my family and celebrated my sister's 16th birthday.

Come Take a Tour at GCA

By Alan Rizkalla

There are many reasons why you should bring your child to Generations Christian Academy. First, the teachers are really nice. They have awesome electives and fun after school programs. And they help you teach your child to be well behaved. If you like being in a busy school; then you might like GCA. Generations Christian Academy, as it says in its name, is a christian school. Here, teachers educate your child about God. Everyday there is a bible session, and once a week students go to an energetic, inspiring chapel. The school is on Generations Christian Church campus, and that church sponsors Florida premier. Lastly, GCA has its own great sports programs.
I hope you visit us sometime soon!

Grandparents Day Bridges the Generations

By Vivienne Rodgriguez and Charlotte Watts

“I thought that grandparents day was a wonderful day because I got to meet all of the sweet grandparents and I got to show my grandparents what I do in the morning,” Vivienne said.

GCA celebrated Grandparents Day on September 9th and the event was a hit! Students, grades k-8, welcomed their grandmas and grandpas to spend the morning with them. There were 20 grandparents who attended 4th and 5th grade classrooms alone! There were tons of awesome sweets for the grandparents such as yogurt granola, pastries, muffins, bagels, coffee, water, and apple juice. The oldest grandparent in attendance was 94 and the youngest grandparent was 55 years old. It was a busy, hectic and amazing day.

Principal Brazeal is Busy at Work

By Jackie Meisman

Every morning Mrs. Brazeal, the principal of grades 3-8 at Generations Christian Academy, sits at her desk working and watching the students down the hall. She manages school activities and schedules, but when she is not at her desk she is interacting with everyone at GCA.

“I became a teacher and an administrator to build relationships with all the amazing kids,” she said.

Outside of working,  Mrs.Brazeal has three toddlers that go to preschool here, two twin girls and her son Knox. She loves sports and played college softball. She even played for the USA Olympics women’s softball team. She also likes to play volleyball and is helping coach the GCA girls volleyball.

“My favorite part of school is PE, sports and lunch,” she said.

Since she started working here last year, she thinks GCA has gained a lot of great kids and the sports program has grown. She looks forward to continuing helping the school grow. We look forward to more years to come with Mrs.Brazeal as our principal!

Girls Volleyball Takes to the Court

By Jackie Meisman

Generations Christian Academy had its first ever volleyball game with the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls that make up the Lions competing against Elfers Eagles Junior Varsity Aug 31! I am excited to have joined the team and love being on the court with such great team mates and coaches. Though we did not win, it was a victory for us and the beginning of a new sports program. At our second game against Spring Hill, we almost took the win with a final score of 22-25. All the girls showed great Christ-like character when we made mistakes at games or practices. We made sure to congratulate each other when we scored or made a great pass or play. We are growing every time we meet on the court and we are all growing strong sister bonds and friendships!

Meet Mrs. Coleman

By Ryleigh Brady and Vivienne Rodriguez

We interviewed one of Generation’s newest teachers: the wonderful Mrs. Coleman. Read below for what we learned about her interests, family and why she became a teacher.

Mrs. Coleman is a fantastic and kind 4th grade teacher. Her favorite subject is science because she likes to learn about  DNA, and she got her masters degree in biology. When she was in high school she did not want to be a teacher, in fact she wanted to be a softball coach! But we are thankful she became a teacher. The school that she taught at before she came to GCA was Calvary High school. Her favorite movie is the animated Grinch because she likes to watch it with her son and spend time with him. She also has two little girls. In the summer, Mrs. Coleman likes to go boating, go to the beach and swim with her family. She said her favorite food is cheese burgers and pizza. Mrs. Coleman has zero pets but one time she caught a ghost crab. She brought it home and she kept it for a week, then let it back at the beach! Mrs. Coleman’s favorite hobby is anything outside because her favorite color is green and she likes being out in nature. When Mrs. Coleman was little, she grew up in Safety Harbor. Her most memorable childhood trip was going to Mississippi farm with her family. Now you know some awesome news about our 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Coleman.
